There are probably people who think that the charity you put into practice risks by its minor reliefs
to slow down the general process of creating a human society entirely renovated and freed from all injustice.
Do not let that worry you - philanthropy and the ultimate benefit of the masses, and the immediate relief of
the individual both stem from the same charity. It does not suffice to ponder generously on love for the whole
of humanity - we must show concrete love of him whom the gospel calls our neighbour, the one who is near us.
It is a way to love God whom we cannot see.
This concrete charity is therefore your primary vocation, your speciality. It is translated into many
facets of society - the care of orphaned children, of the aged, of the lonely, of migrants, of refugees,
of the homeless or badly housed, of the sick, of the handicapped, of prisoners, of the victims of catastrophe.
